About Me

Enjoying sunset on a beach in Aruba

Howdy! I am Bethany, the writer and world traveler behind A Gal Who Travels. I am so happy that you’ve found my little corner of the web…thank you for visiting!

I am an intrepid 50-something solo female traveler, and I love to explore the world! You’ll usually find me on cruises…mainly small ocean cruises and river cruises. But I also love a good road trip to explore the world a bit closer to home. When I’m not exploring the corners of the globe, I am at home in Tampa, Florida working as a Travel Agent and blogger. I also love to do cross-stitch and needlepoint projects.

About My Content

I use my many years of experience traveling the world to help guide others who are looking to get out and explore the world themselves.

  • While I am a solo female traveler, my content is for any traveler. Whether you, too, are a solo traveler or you are embarking on a multi-generational family trip, the content here will resonate with you.
  • Each post is written from my own direct experience, not just a summary of information from other people (or AI generated).
  • I share the good and the bad of travel. My posts are a mix of what has worked for me…and more importantly, what mistakes I have made along the way to help you avoid them!

About This Site

Here on A Gal Who Travels, you can find helpful tips for everything from travel basics to packing and planning. You can also get inspired with information about cruise essentials, as well as spotlights on many of my favorite destinations.

Four Things About Me

  1. I have explored 51 countries and 39 states so far. My current quest is something I like to call 60 in 60…my challenge to myself to visit 60 countries by the time I turn 60 years old.
  2. I was born and raised in Maine, and have lived in five other states since graduating from high school: Connecticut, Georgia, Colorado, Kansas, and Florida.
  3. I have gone through a fairly diverse career path to get me to this point in my life. I started as an Administrative Assistant at a career counseling center after college, then worked my way through several Customer Service, Management, and Corporate Training roles with an international containerized shipping company. From there, I moved into the tech world, working as a Business Analyst and a Project Manager for several companies in the healthcare, transportation, and insurance industries. I am now starting my career as a Travel Agent and blogger!
  4. My favorite food is lobster (as a native Mainer, it’s practically required!), and my favorite drink is a dirty vodka martini.
